History:

Hamilton Operation Pumpkin originated as a program founded by Jim Grimm, a Hamilton visionary who developed the program in the 1950s for school aged children. Grimm was responsible for the creation of the citywide parks program and an advocate for healthy living who also established a physical education program in local schools.

Operation Pumpkin began as a safe way for children to celebrate Halloween. Local businesses generously donated toys ranging from bicycles to televisions. The event lasted from the early 50s into the early 70s.

Today's Hamilton Operation Pumpkin serves as a living legacy of Jim Grimm and as a community event for all ages where families can enjoy spending time together in a safe environment.
